Neve Paritzki (נווה פריצקי)Jerusalem is home to the world's first bicycle tunnel in Israel.

The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique ride and hiking experience which is enjoyed by everyone.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's newest bicycle tunnel, has been inaugurated as part of the 42-kilometer cycle route which runs through the capital.

The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. It is located in southern Israel located in Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the nearest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel project was officially inaugurated at a formal ceremony on Thursday , attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov, and a slew of cyclists.


Jerusalem was a popular tourist destination due to its rich past. Elkin said that today aside from its rich history, Jerusalem also incorporates modern tourists. "The opening of the tunnel project is a different element of the progress of Jerusalem as well as it's transformation into an attractive tourist destination for all types throughout Israel and the world.

Elkin who's ministry in charge of the project with Jerusalem Municipality stated that his ministry invested thousands of shekels every year in the development of Jerusalem's tourism and in the development of new ventures and attractions that connect the stunning historical past and future of Jerusalem. I would like to invite cyclists everywhere to come and take a ride along the new, well-maintained and modern route that overlooks Old Jerusalem.

The project was financed by the Elkin's Ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry. It also included budgets for the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation.  נווה פריצקי The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin stressed, "The Kerem Tunnel project is a key instrument for realizing our vision to change the notion of transportation in Jerusalem." "The new tunnel, which connects to the long Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect the existing bike routes in the city as well as those that are paved in its various neighborhoods, to encourage cycling among the city's residents as well as its visitors, and also promoting the green revolution in transportation in the capital city."

The Kerem Tunnel was first excavated in the 1990s to move the main sewer line from the Gihon Corporation toward the purification plant in Sorek It is situated to the west of the city. It is currently being used as an infrastructure tunnel that also houses the fifth water line, which connects to Jerusalem of the Mekorot water company.

In order to make the tunnel accessible to the general public throughout the year, the works include road construction, as well as installation of blowers.
