The Kerem Tunnel is a great spot to hike and ride.
In the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route that surrounds Jerusalem's capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

The tunnel links the paths between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. It is located in southern Israel in Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the closest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

The 2.1-kilometer long tunnel was opened on Thursday, by Jerusalem and the heritage minister Ze'evElkin and Mayor Moshe Lion. Avi Baleshnikov of Gihon the chairman of Gihon, and hundreds other cyclists were also in attendance.

A total of NIS 25 million were invested in the project. It was budgeted by the Elkin's Ministry, the Tourism Ministry, the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation and the Jerusalem Purification and Sewerage Works, with the work carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

"The Kerem Tunnel project is an essential tool to realize the idea to alter the notion of transportation in Jerusalem," Elkin stressed. "The tunnel, which connects to the long Jerusalem Ring Path, will join existing bike paths in the city and the ones that will be laid in the various neighborhoods to encourage cycling among its residents and its visitors and in promoting the green revolution of transportation in the capital city."

The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to transfer the main sewer line toward Sorek's purification plant.
